Location
Nisaki, Corfu
Just 22km north of the bustling town of Corfu, lies the quiet village of Nisaki, bearing a strong traditional Corfiot character to it and the honor of boasting one of the finest beaches of the island. Nisaki overlooks the east coast of Corfu and the shimmering waters of the Ionian Sea that wash its shore, way over to the Albanian mainland. Stretching over a series of natural coves, the village is cradled by rocky formations and the lush verdure of the hills of Mount Pantokrator. The idyllic scenery and traditional charm, far from being over-commercialized and touristy, make for a tranquil atmosphere, ideal for those seeking to embark on a relaxing getaway.
The beach of Nisaki is covered in pebbles and gradually shelves into pure waters. Even if the serene atmosphere is not tempting enough for you to stay at the beach and soak up the sun, the coves surrounding the beach offer the perfect opportunity to go snorkeling and explore them. You can even rent a boat and cruise along the east coast of Corfu to discover all the natural beauties it has to offer. For those who wish to stay active and have a sense of adventure, except for the underwater exploration, Nisaki has also amazing trekking opportunities to offer. You can follow the paths starting behind the village, rising through the hillsides of Mount Pantokrator and its verdant surface covered in pines and cypress trees.
The glorious view of the sea that awaits at the end of the steep path along the coast and to rocky coves will more than compensate the hike. Of course, the nearby beaches are equally inviting and you can reach them either driving or by renting a boat, so that you have the chance to stop at any of the small picturesque bays carved into the east coast. Right next are the beaches of Krouzeri and Kaminaki that constitute the farthest part of Nisaki also boasting marvelous coastal landscapes, or head further north to visit the bay of Agni and stay for lunch in one of its traditional taverns. Lastly, heading south you will come across the pebbly beach of Barbati, a lively region of unique natural and cosmopolitan charm.
