Location

Kassiopi, Corfu

The contour of the coast is adorned with rocky hills, abundant olive and cypress trees and cradled by crystal clear azure waters. Resting in this imposing setting is the village of Kassiopi, the largest village found in the north-east. Situated 37km from Corfu town, Kassiopi is the perfect spot for you to venture to the northern part of Corfu. Traditionally, Kassiopi used to be a typical fishing village but nowadays it has developed into a vibrant destination, without losing any of its idyllic character and picturesque charm. Its small harbor, at the heart of the town, is home to taverns, where you can savor fresh fish, caught daily by the locals, and lights up during the night when cafes and cute bars come to life. Walking along Kassiopi’s narrow streets you will find small shops and several choices for dining and enjoying a drink. For this reason, Kassiopi remains a family-friendly, yet lively, destination, thanks to its charming nightlife. Built on the site where an ancient roman settlement used to stand, Kassiopi also exhibits quite interesting bits of history. The remains of an old Venetian fortress can still be seen today, lying across the side of the hill. From here it is easy to reach other nearby beaches, mostly pebbled, within small coves. The beaches of Avlaki and Kalamionas are at a walking distance from Kassiopi. But Kassiopi also offers the opportunity for truly enjoyable drives while admiring the lush setting, with pristine beaches and picturesque villages to be found along the way. Heading east, you will come across the beach of Agios Stefanos, a small fishing village with a peaceful atmosphere, resting on the base of gentle hills. Here you will find traditional taverns and pure shallow waters. Passing through Agios Stefanos, the beach of Kerasia is also worth a stop. Further south, about 7km from Kassiopi, is the area of Kalami, a place of unique natural beauty offering a calm and serene environment. It is the place where British novelist Lawrence Durrell used to live and the setting that probably inspired his initial writings. If you choose to head further north from Kassiopi, you might want to visit the beach of Bataria. An amazing and quite secluded spot of wild natural beauty and clear waters, covered in pebbles, ideal if you seek for some privacy. Last but not least, and moving away from the shore, nestled in the mountain is the village of Old Perithia; an abandoned village with a nostalgic feel, where it is almost as if time stood still. It also has some of the best taverns in the island where you can taste traditional Corfiot cuisine. Walk around the abandoned stone houses and let your imagination revive moments of a forgotten time right before your eyes.
