Situated 20km north of Corfu town, Barbati is fringed by the lush hills of Pantokrator. Its beauty consists in this unique positioning; it nestles between the sea and the mountain. The natural bay comprising the beach of Barbati opens to the crystalline waters of the east coast, cradled by hills verdant with olive groves and pines. It is no coincidence, therefore, that it is considered one of the finest beaches of the east coast and is really popular with visitors who enjoy the lively atmosphere of the village of Barbati, without having to sacrifice tranquil moments savored peacefully in a calm and stunning natural setting. The beach is long and pebbled and is highly organized, featuring various facilities and watersport activities. Despite the development it remains easy to distance yourself from the crowd and find a spot where you can have extra privacy, as the beach stretches over a distance of almost 2km. The waters here are pleasantly shallow and also ideal for snorkeling, the beach overlooks Corfu Town and it includes an unusual sight; the remains of an old church, still resting right at the level of the beach. The main road that crosses Barbati comes with a lot of taverns, bars and restaurants and the atmosphere of the village is generally vibrant. Since it is situated at the foothills of Mount Pantokrator, it offers fantastic hiking opportunities through the hills, and it can constitute your base for embarking on walking adventures to explore the nature. It is also worth visiting some of the traditional villages scattered around the mountain area of Pantokrator. Old Sinies is one of them, an abandoned 17th century settlement, as well as the Byzantine village of Ano Perithia. The top of Mount Pantokrator, the highest peak in Corfu is home to a monastery and, of course, glorious views. Heading south from Barbati you can reach Ipsos with its buzzing nightlife, bars and shops, while further north is the quiet fishing village of Nisaki, known for its traditional taverns and small, but charming, pebbled beach.
